• Social Distancing • Using my Vespa, I rode around New York to ask friends/fellow freelancers/artist if I can take their portrait from a sidewalk using a telephoto lens. And to share their stories during this uncertain times. ——————————————————————————— “Everyday I wake up feeling thankful to be alive and be able to serve others. I’ve been a nurse for 11 years now, 4 years in New York. I have served in disasters in the past but I have never seen anything like this. No one has. 2 weeks ago I went down memory lane and looked back why I chose this profession. It takes a lot of courage, fortitude and reflection to wake up everyday and pull myself to this battlefield. It took days to really sink in that we live in a different reality now. On my normal days, I work in the operating room where everything is structured and sterile. Today, I work in a world where the moment I step out of my house, I am practically exposed to everything. Riding with asymptomatic subway commuters to working with tested positive Covid-19 patients. My role now is to make sure the patients and loved ones are able to communicate regularly. I give updates to family members. Sometimes good news like the fever is subsiding and he is breathing better. Sometimes sad news, “he is having difficulty breathing we increased the Morphine to make him comfortable”. The saddest part is when a patient dies away from loved ones. Sometimes a nurse holding the hand, most of the time, alone. Facetime or a simple phone call good bye is the only possible way family members can interact. It breaks my heart to pieces. It’s hard to heal, but tomorrow is another day. Hoping for better days, yet still preparing for the worst.” Erick Brocoy #socialdistancing #corona #newyork #clapbecausewecare #essentialworkers For freelancers who are in need of assistance during this time.
